Aberdare Cables a été créé en 1946 et est l'un des principaux fabricants de câbles d'Afrique du Sud. Aberdare Cables possède trois sites de production en Afrique du Sud, ainsi que des centres de service à la clientèle dans chaque province et à Maputo.
L'entreprise emploie 1500 personnes et détient actuellement un statut BBBEE de niveau 1, avec une composition de 55% appartenant à des Noirs et 30% appartenant à des femmes noires.
En 2016, Aberdare Cables a été racheté par un fabricant de câbles chinois, Hengtong. Les Hengtong Le groupe est présent dans 120 pays, possède 9 bases de production à l'étranger et détient 5 marques, dont Aberdare.
