  • John Wesley Community Centre

The John Wesley Community Centre recently became one of the many organizations that Aberdare has helped. We proudly donated a sum of R60 000 to the institute, the first contribution in our pledge to provide on-going support to this community centre.

The centre, situated in Etwatwa about 25km from Benoni on the East Rand of Johannesburg, was built by Women for Peace and in May 2000 was donated to Northfield Methodist church.

Over the past 12 years the centre has initiated and supported initiatives to meet the needs of the Etwatwa community which comprises of mostly unskilled and unemployed people. Its objective: to “fight poverty by restoring human dignity”.

Projects undertaken by the centre include: HIV/AIDS projects for orphaned and vulnerable children, an after-school care facility which provides a meal and structured activities for 100 children on weekdays during the school term, and a home visitation team which reaches out to households, specifically child headed ones.
